STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2022) – The Deerberg Farm in Hancock County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award for being in operation since 1869, according to State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) and State Sen. Michael Crider (R-Greenfield).
"Hoosier farmers dedicate so much to our community, and they contribute to our state's strong agricultural heritage," Jeter said. "For the same family to run an operation for more than 150 years is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to the Deerberg Farm on reaching this milestone."
The Deerberg Farm was among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"It is truly amazing so see the continuous hard work these family-run farms put into their agricultural work," Crider said. "I commend the Deerberg Farm for their commitment and dedication in supporting their local community and state. I look forward to seeing their continued success."
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
