STATEHOUSE (June 7, 2016) — State Rep. Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) congratulates Richmond resident, John Place, as a recipient of Indiana’s 2016 Golden Hoosier Award.

The award, which began in 2008, annually honors a group of outstanding Hoosier senior citizens for their lifetime of service and commitment to their communities.

“This award is considered one of the highest honors given by the state to senior citizens,” Hamm said. “For the past five years, John donated his time to the Wayne County Special Olympics, mentoring athletes and coaching basketball, softball, and track and field. It is my honor to recognize John and all that he has done for our community.”

Golden Hoosier Award recipients are Indiana residents aged 65 years or older and volunteer in their communities.

Place and 19 fellow honorees accepted their awards at a recent Statehouse ceremony.
