Haggard: Reflecting on my time representing House District 57

Serving the people of House District 57 has been one of the great honors of my life. From the day I was sworn in to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2022, representing portions of Hendricks, Johnson and Morgan counties, I have carried with me the values I learned growing up in Mooresville: hard work, service, and a deep commitment to family and community.

However, my service to this state didn’t begin in the Statehouse. For more than two decades, I proudly served as a Marine Corps aviator and later in the Indiana Air National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2013. Those years taught me discipline, leadership and the importance of serving something greater than myself. After retirement, I returned home to Mooresville to raise our children with my wife, Brooke, and to build a career as a small-business owner and commercial broker. I also had the privilege of serving as Indiana field representative for the National Rifle Association for six years, and as a member of the board, advocating for Second Amendment rights on behalf of Hoosiers.

In the legislature, I’ve focused my efforts on serving veterans, bolstering public safety, protecting homeowners and upholding the 2nd Amendment. I authored legislation in 2026 to improve housing and support for veterans, and put forward legislation in 2025 to give property tax relief to veterans and seniors.  In 2023, we passed legislation to create a "Green Alert" public safety system for missing veterans and service members.

new law I co-authored in 2023 limited PFAS, hazardous material, in firefighter gear. Additionally, my bills to crack down on predatory robocallsprotect the privacy of firearm transactions and adding privacy protections for lawful gun owners were all signed into law.

For me, service doesn’t stop at the Statehouse. I’ve been honored to participate in national leadership forums like the White House State Leadership Conference, where I worked to build partnerships that benefit Indiana families and deepen our collaboration with leaders across government.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you. I remain committed to listening, learning and working every day on behalf of the families of central Indiana.
