STATEHOUSE (Nov. 16, 2023) — Nontraditional female students in Indiana can apply for a scholarship through the Political Organization for Women's Education and Representation before the Nov. 20 deadline, according to State Reps. Lori Goss Reaves (R-Marion) and Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo).
Goss-Reaves said scholarship recipients could include women who are returning to school after a hiatus, changing careers, or seeking advancement in their career or work life, and stay-at-home moms entering the workplace who need additional education or training. The scholarship is not intended for recent high school graduates, or women who are eligible for or have already received other significant financial aid.
"For Hoosier women seeking to further their education, this scholarship is a great way to get the extra help they need to cross the finish line," Goss-Reaves said. "I encourage women of all ages and walks of life to quickly apply for this opportunity."
A bipartisan selection committee awards scholarships of $1,000 each. The scholarship check will be made directly to the institution with instructions to apply the funds to the student’s current account to pay for school tuition, books, and fees. Qualified applicants include non-traditional female students whose education may have been delayed or interrupted, and the committee will consider financial need, personal vision, service to community, and post-education plans.
"Whether you're changing your career path, returning or beginning school, or looking to advance in your career, this scholarship can help many women achieve their goals," Karickhoff said. "I encourage all nontraditional female students in our community to apply today."
