STATEHOUSE (May 4, 2026) – The governor recently ceremonially signed a new law sponsored by State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) which bans dangerous Chinese-produced vaping products in Indiana.
VanNatter said Senate Enrolled Act 185 cracks down on dangerous chemicals in vaping products manufactured by foreign entities aiming to target Americans, including China.
"Increasingly, we're seeing unregulated vaping products enter the market with unknown and potentially dangerous ingredients," VanNatter said. "This new law is about drawing a clear line to protect Hoosiers and prevent dangerous products from reaching consumers."
Additionally, SEA 185 strengthens oversight of tobacco and e-cigarette sales by requiring wholesalers to hold a valid state sales certificate and limiting new permits at locations with recent violations. It also protects Hoosier youth by requiring stricter ID checks and increasing penalties for repeated failures to verify a buyer’s age.
Ceremonial bill signings showcase legislation passed during the 2026 session and are a way for lawmakers, stakeholders and those directly impacted to come together and reflect on how these new laws will benefit Hoosiers.
