STATEHOUSE (June 4, 2025) – Gov. Mike Braun recently ceremonially signed into law legislation sponsored by State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) to protect farmers through the Indiana Grain Indemnity Fund and strengthen oversight of the grain industry.
Baird, a member of the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, said Senate Enrolled Act 461 updates and clarifies Indiana's grain buyer and warehouse licensing laws. It outlines how licenses must be obtained, renewed or relinquished and requires licensees to submit specific financial documents.
"This new law helps Indiana's agriculture sector by giving producers more confidence in the system and holding grain buyers and warehouses to clear, consistent standards," Baird said. "It's a commonsense update that supports both farmers and consumers across the state."
Baird said this law supports farmers and those in the agriculture sector as it strengthens protections while promoting transparency and accountability in the grain industry. Senate Enrolled Act 461 also helps both grain producers and buyers by improving inspections, compliance and how indemnity fund reimbursements are calculated.
