STATEHOUSE (April 22, 2026) – Gov. Mike Braun recently ceremonially signed into law legislation co-sponsored by State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) to improve health care oversight, reduce administrative burden and support public safety efforts across Indiana.
Barrett co-sponsored Senate Enrolled Act 262, which enhances Indiana’s prescription drug monitoring program, INSPECT, by clarifying reporting requirements and reducing unnecessary administrative burden for health care providers. The law also allows limited data sharing with state agencies to support overdose prevention and related public health efforts while maintaining compliance with federal law.
He also sponsored SEA 189, which includes provisions addressing administrative fees or penalties charged to out-of-network providers.
Additionally, Barrett co-sponsored SEA 293, which streamlines the pharmacist licensure process, updates education standards and repeals outdated rules to improve licensure reciprocity, reduce barriers and align Indiana with national licensing practices.
"These laws focus on improving coordination, transparency and efficiency across our health care system," Barrett said. "By reducing unnecessary red tape and modernizing standards, we can lower costs, expand access and produce better health outcomes for Hoosiers."
