STATEHOUSE (May 13, 2026) – Gov. Mike Braun recently ceremonially signed into law several pieces of legislation authored and co-authored by State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) to improve health care access, strengthen protections for children and families, and enhance oversight in critical service areas.
"Each piece of legislation delivers meaningful protections and removes barriers so Hoosier families can access the care and support they need," Goss-Reaves said. "From cancer patients, children in crisis, and families seeking stability, these bills put results and accountability first."
Goss-Reaves co-authored House Enrolled Act 1114, which prohibits health plans that cover advanced metastatic cancer from requiring patients to “fail first” on other drugs before covering prescribed cancer medications. The change improves access to potentially lifesaving treatments for Hoosiers facing serious cancer diagnoses.
HEA 1296 boosts oversight and transparency for addiction and mental health recovery centers by requiring facilities to register with Indiana's Division of Mental Health and Addiction, meet ethical standards, and be listed publicly. The law cracks down on deceptive operations that prey on struggling Hoosiers and promotes responsible rehabilitation that prioritizes results and reduces recidivism.
To make it easier for afterschool programs to qualify for the School Age Child Care Project Fund, HEA 1018 removes certain transportation requirements for grants. The new law expands the pool of eligible providers that can access funding to offer care for Hoosier families and gives rulemaking authority to the Indiana Division of Family Resources to set cost and expense standards for transporting children.
HEA 1092 upholds paternal accountability by creating more avenues for child support payments to be made and received. It requires sports wagering operators to withhold winnings from individuals delinquent on child support and strengthens transparency in the adoption process by requiring case numbers for children in need of services to be included in petitions. The law also promotes safety at child care facilities while reducing unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
"I am proud to be a part of advancing these measures that deliver real results for Hoosiers across the state," Goss-Reaves said. "This legislation reflects our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, strengthening accountability, and ensuring communities have access to safe reliable care and services."
Additionally, Goss-Reaves supported and attended the ceremonial signing of Senate Enrolled Act 282, which protects consumers by requiring medical spas to register with the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana. The law requires reporting serious adverse events and operating under a qualified practitioner. Goss-Reaves said the law also strengthens oversight of drug compounding through compliance standards, enforcement authority, and a required state report.
