STATEHOUSE (April 14, 2026) – The governor recently ceremonially signed into law a bill authored by State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) to extend Indiana's high school equivalency program, helping more Hoosier students find a career path.
Indiana’s high school equivalency pilot program provides an alternate path to career readiness for students who have not completed high school. Davis said this program has helped hundreds of Hoosier students find a path forward while prioritizing career readiness. House Enrolled Act 1195 expands eligibility for the program and extends it until mid-2028.
"Every Hoosier student deserves a shot at a bright future," Davis said. "This law opens a door for more students who may be struggling but are wanting to find a path forward, giving them additional tools to find a career."
Under the new law, any minor under the age of 18 who completes the Indiana Career Explorer program and an approved readiness assessment, and gets a recommendation from a parent, school official or judge, is eligible for the high school equivalency program.
