STATEHOUSE (Feb. 6, 2017) — Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb and State Rep. Woody Burton (R-Whiteland) honored Indianapolis Colts player Adam Vinatieri today in the House Chamber.
Governor Holcomb awarded Vinatieri a Sagamore of the Wabash, the state’s highest honor, during Burton’s resolution recognizing him for his accomplishments on and off the field. A kicker with the Colts since 2006, Vinatieri will likely be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He holds the NFL record for most consecutive field goals.
“With four Super Bowl wins, Adam is an extremely accomplished and talented football player,” Burton said. “I appreciate his hard work and dedication on and off the field. He’s a role model to young children in Indiana and across the country. As an avid Colts fan, I am happy to recognize Adam for his contributions to the Colts and our community.”
“Adam is one of the greatest football kickers of all time, but he’s also a good man with a heart for helping others – including Hoosiers,” Governor Holcomb said. “I’m honored to recognize his efforts on and off the field with this Sagamore of the Wabash.”
Vinatieri set a new world record in field goal kicking on Friday during the NFL Extra Points Charity kick in Houston. His 28 kicks in 20 seconds won $15,000 for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides academic scholarships for military veterans and their spouses.
