STATEHOUSE (Dec. 20, 2024) – State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) recently presented Dan Spencer, Wayne “Spike” Gaskin, and Lezlie Winter with a Circle of Corydon Award for their outstanding dedication to education and service to the community.
“When a community finds leaders with a tireless work ethic, a love for children, a passion for education, and a servant’s heart, the community is richly blessed," Goss-Reaves said. "Tonight, I had the honor, on behalf of Gov. Holcomb, of presenting three humble servants a Circle of Corydon Award."
Spencer served on the Eastbrook Community Schools Board of Trustees for more than 30 years, where he was instrumental in advocating for the reinstatement of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program. Goss-Reaves said his efforts have helped ensure the continued success of this program in the community.
Gaskin served on the Mississinewa Community Schools Board of Trustees for 24 years, seven of those years as president. In addition to his work in education, he served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps.
Winter’s education career began in 1981 as a teacher and coach at Mississinewa Community Schools. Over the years, she has served as an assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. Goss-Reaves said Winter has been an influential leader in shaping the future of Mississinewa High School for more than two decades.
“The number of lives these individuals have positively impacted is countless,” Goss-Reaves said. “Their commitment to education and service has truly made our schools and community a better place for everyone.”
The Circle of Corydon Award was established by the governor in 2017 to recognize Hoosiers who have made remarkable contributions to the betterment of Indiana and its people, demonstrating through life and service qualities exemplified by the state’s greatest citizens. This is the only award issued and signed jointly by members of both the executive and legislative branches.
