STATEHOUSE (March 10, 2025) – A Senate Concurrent Resolution sponsored by State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) to rename a portion of I-65 in Boone County after fallen Boone County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob M. Pickett unanimously passed the House Roads and Transportation Committee on Monday.
Genda said the resolution urges the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the portion of I-65 between mile marker 137 and 138 in Boone County the "Deputy Jacob M. Pickett Memorial Mile."
"Deputy Pickett dedicated his life to protecting our community and we will be forever grateful," Genda said. "I'm honored to support this resolution as a way to remember and honor his legacy and sacrifice."
Pickett started his law enforcement career at the Marion County Sheriff's Office before transferring to the Tipton County Sheriff's Office. He joined the Boone County Sheriff's Office in 2015, serving as a taser instructor, K-9 team leader, K-9 handler and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #110.
On March 2, 2018, Pickett was fatally shot during a pursuit with his K-9 partner, Brik, to apprehend three suspects who fled Lebanon Police serving a warrant.
