STATEHOUSE (March 22, 2018) – A policy sponsored by State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) allowing products derived from industrial hemp, like CBD oil, to be sold in Indiana was signed into law on Wednesday by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
Under Senate Enrolled Act 52, CBD oil products have to meet testing, registration and labeling requirements, and not contain more than 0.3 percent tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.
“Ensuring Hoosiers seeking relief from a myriad of health issues and disorders have the legal option to purchase CBD oil was a priority,” Friend said. “After countless hours of work and public input, I am glad this law was passed, helping bring comfort to families who need CBD oil to alleviate pain. I want to thank all those who spoke up and contacted their elected officials to make this happen.”
According to Friend, these products, while derived from industrial hemp, cannot be used as a recreational drug due to the extremely low levels of THC. This law does not legalize medical marijuana.
