STATEHOUSE (Jan. 31, 2018) — The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed State Rep. Bill Friend’s (R-Macy) proposal that would allow CBD oil to be sold and purchased in Indiana.
House Bill 1214 would legalize industrial hemp products, like CBD oil, if certain conditions are met. CBD oil products would need to meet testing, registration and labeling requirements, and not contain more than 0.3 percent THC.
“Since the passing of last year’s law, which provided immunity to families for possessing CBD oil to treat epileptic children, lawmakers have received many messages from people using CBD oil to treat many other conditions from chronic pain to Crohn’s,” Friend said. “I believe all Hoosiers seeking relief should legally have the option to purchase CBD oil.”
According to Friend, the products have shown to be useful in treating patients with a variety of disorders when other medications are not effective or cause harmful side effects. CBD oil does not cause the psychoactive high associated with marijuana, and this legislation would not legalize medical marijuana.
