STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2017) – State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) recognized Brenda Bowman, the 2016-2017 Indiana Rural Teacher of the Year, for her devotion to education Monday in the House chamber.
The Galveston Elementary School educator was selected as the Indiana Rural Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association. Working with Galveston schools for 32 years, Bowman teaches academically challenged fourth grade students.
“Brenda makes it her mission to give students a hands-on and engaged learning experience,” Friend said. “Our community is lucky to have a hard working and respected educator like Brenda teaching in one of our schools. Her enthusiasm and drive to keep her students active, involved and interested in their learning is highly commendable.”
In addition to being named Indiana Rural Teacher of the Year, Bowman was also a finalist for the title of National Rural Teacher of the Year.
