STATEHOUSE (Nov. 7, 2017) — Caston Jr.-Sr. High School and Peru High School were among 130 schools honored during Monday’s Indiana Dual Credit Recognition Ceremony at the Statehouse, according to State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy).
The Indiana Department of Education, Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University celebrated the success of these schools, where at least 30 percent of students succeeded in a dual-credit course.
“Dual-credit courses are an excellent opportunity for students to get a head-start on their higher education,” Friend said. “Students who participate in dual-credit courses are more likely to attend college and complete their degree on time. Our schools are lucky to have educators who push their students to excel academically and prepare for the future.”
Friend said dual-credit courses provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school, potentially saving future tuition costs. Dual-credit courses are taught by high school or college educators at a high school, college or university, or through online courses. These college-level courses are offered by both state and independent colleges and universities.
