STATEHOUSE (Oct. 13, 2016) – The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to pay for 80 percent of unforeseen costs in a Logansport road project after meeting with State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) and State Sen. Randy Head (R-Logansport).
The recent intersection improvement project at 18th and Main streets required the removal of more limestone than expected. The most recent overrun estimate shows an additional $360,000 is needed to complete the project.
“When Sen. Head and I were first informed of the cost overage on the 18th and Main Street project, we immediately scheduled a meeting with INDOT and the governor’s office,” Friend said. “When presented with the facts, these offices agreed that significant state assistance was warranted.”
Since August, Friend and Head have been meeting with state and local officials to find a plan that adequately addresses these extra costs.
“It was important to us that state and local government worked as a team to find a suitable solution for the unforeseen costs,” Head said. “This project is important to me and my home of Logansport, and I believe Rep. Friend and I have done our best to help find a solution with which all parties can work.”
The city of Logansport will now need to determine how to cover the remaining 20 percent of project costs.
