Note to the Press – State Reps. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne), Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne), Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne) and Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) issued the following statements in response to Gov. Eric Holcomb's decision to deploy the Indiana National Guard to support the ongoing border security mission in Texas. Following the recent direct request from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Holcomb announced he will send 50 Hoosier guardsmen to help the Texas National Guard during a 10-month deployment:
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 12, 2024) – "Texas is taking a stand to rightfully protect and defend itself from the record number of illegal border crossings, and I'm grateful Indiana is joining their mission. Whether it's the dangerous criminals and drugs entering our country or enormous strain on government services, the negative consequences of open borders will impact all states," said State Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne).
"We're thankful that Governor Holcomb is taking swift action and deploying 50 Hoosier guardsmen to aid the ongoing border security mission in Texas. I recently called on the governor to send the Indiana National Guard to help restore the integrity of our southern border. This illegal immigration crisis is negatively impacting U.S. citizens, law enforcement, social services and border crossers themselves. Federal negligence puts Indiana and the rest of the country at risk. We cannot continue the open invitation for illegal crossings that inherently lead to more illicit drugs and criminals like human traffickers and cartel members entering our country," said State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne).
"The record number of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. at our southern border is deeply concerning. This issue affects the entire nation, and strains our government services, community resources and health care systems. It's encouraging to see Indiana step up and give Texas the help they are asking for," said State Rep. Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne).
"I fully support Governor Holcomb's decision to deploy members of the Indiana National Guard to help Texas combat the record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border. The Biden Administration's border crisis is unsustainable and it's forcing states to do the job of the federal government. It's great to see Indiana help answer the call and stand with Texans," said State Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne).
