Ellspermann Edition: Memorial Day Weekend (5/25/2012)

Friday, May 25, 2012 7:00 pm

Start Date:  5/25/2012  Start Time:  12:00 AM
End Date:  5/25/2012  End Time:  11:59 PM

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day, a time to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country.  Because of the brave actions of these fine soldiers and protectors, Hoosiers and Americans enjoy the highest level of freedom and safety in the world.

It was just over 10 years ago during the tragedies of September 11 that many of us understood personally the vulnerability of our nation and our way of life.  Across the country, we watched as New York’s brave men and women firefighters, police, and emergency personnel took charge that day as the World Trade Center crumbled.  Our nation’s military was soon engaged and has worked these past 10 years to make the world a safer place.  And, with this, we have entered “a new reality” of American life in which we understand better that we must stand strong to ensure a world in which peace, freedom and human rights may be enjoyed by all.

Please spend time this weekend recognizing, thanking and praying for those who have served America in the past and those who continue to serve America now: our military men and women, homeland security and emergency personnel, and, of course, our local law enforcement and firefighters.  May God bless and watch over each and every one of these fine servant leaders as they place the protection of our communities, state and nation before their own.
