STATEHOUSE (July 26, 2023) – Area legislators recently received interim study committee appointments and will take a deep dive into issues facing Hoosiers as they prepare for the next legislative session in January.
Lawmakers serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy topics, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.
State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor. He will also serve on the Drainage Task Force.
"Increasing our workforce and talent pipeline is critical to our state's future," Abbott said. "On the employment and labor committee, I look forward to review our current workforce programs and learning more about how we can encourage more out-of-state professionals to locate here."
State Rep. Joanna King (R-Middlebury) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Public Safety and Military Affairs. She will also serve on the Governor's Commission on Supplier Diversity.
State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) will be the vice chair of the Interim Study Committee on Government. He will also serve on the Government Reform Task Force.
"As a member of the Government Reform Task Force, we are looking at how we can update Indiana agencies' rulemaking processes by ensuring there's transparency and public comment periods," Miller said. "This stems from a new law I co-authored this past session to examine external policies and standards implemented by agencies."
State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola) will serve as vice chair of the Interim Study Committee on Elections. He will also serve as a member on the County Redistricting Commission.
Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
