STATEHOUSE (Jan. 7, 2026) – Elkhart County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"Students in the page program will have a firsthand look at how laws are made," Abbott said. "This experience is a fantastic way to inspire the next generation of Hoosier leaders."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Joanna King (R-Middlebury) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"Welcoming students to the Statehouse is a highlight of the legislative session," King said. "This is a beneficial learning opportunity for students who are interested in seeing the lawmaking process up close."
State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"The page program gives students an inside track to what happens on a daily basis during session," Miller said. "Anyone who is interested in state government or politics should apply for this opportunity."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. "Pages meet staff and legislators to see what a typical day is like at the Statehouse during session," said State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola). "Students are able to watch proceedings on the House floor and get a firsthand learning experience."
Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
