STATEHOUSE (Sept. 4, 2024) – Applications to intern with Indiana House Republicans for the 2025 legislative session are now open, according to area lawmakers.

State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) said the Indiana House of Representatives offers a spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full time, Monday through Friday.

"Our interns get a better understanding of how state government operates while also gaining valuable skills that employers are looking for in potential candidates," Abbott said. "This is a great opportunity for students and graduates in the community to gain experience working at the Statehouse."

State Rep. Joanna King (R-Middlebury) said internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns get free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

"Interns are an important part of our team each legislative session as they work with legislators and House staff," King said. "This internship program will fill up quickly, so interested Hoosiers shouldn’t wait to apply."

State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) said interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

"Many current and former staff members at the Statehouse got their start from this program," Miller said. "This experience builds the professionalism and skills needed for future careers."

The program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
