STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Elkhart County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"The House Republican Internship Program offers students a hands-on experience to explore government and understand how laws are made," Abbott said. "It’s a rewarding opportunity that can positively shape your career."
State Rep. Joanna King (R-Middlebury) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"Interning with the House of Representatives gives students the ability to craft their skills and gain real-world knowledge outside of the classroom," King said. "This is a great opportunity and allows young Hoosiers to earn money working in a professional environment."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Interns regularly interact with state lawmakers during session, including committee meetings and on the House floor," Miller said. "This is a great learning experience for students, and I encourage those who are qualified to apply."
"The House internship program is a great way for young Hoosiers to get involved and learn more about state government," said State Rep. Tim Wesco (R-Osceola). "The program is open to all majors and students will gain valuable real-world experience by participating in the lawmaking process."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
