STATEHOUSE (Aug. 20, 2021) – Longstanding Dubois County farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years, according to local legislators.

"These farming families have made a positive impact on Dubois County for more than a century," said State Rep. Shane Lindauer (R-Jasper). "I commend them for earning this prestigious honor and thank them for their commitment to our community."

The Hoppenjans Farm, in operation since 1921, and the Lawrence Gutgsell Farm, in operation since 1910, both received centennial awards.

"I am proud to represent these dedicated farming families," said State Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem). "With the Hoosier Homestead awards, we recognize the hard work and commitment of the farmers who help support and sustain Indiana's agricultural industry. Thank you to these local Hoosier Homestead award recipients for all you do for our local community and the state of Indiana."

These farming families were among 73 recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.

"Farming plays a major role in Indiana's economy and adds to its unique character," said State Rep. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty). "Longtime farms such as these are crucial for our state's continued success."

Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit in.gov/isda.
