STATEHOUSE (August 23, 2021) – Longstanding DeKalb County farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years or more, according to State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) and State Sen. Dennis Kruse (R-Auburn).
"These farms helped build and shape Indiana's renowned agriculture reputation into what it is today," Smaltz said. "They are a part of the state's rich tradition of family-owned farms that are passed down through generations, and it's my hope they all continue on for another 100 years and more."
Located in DeKalb County, these farms were presented Hoosier Homestead Awards:
"Recognizing these families for their generations of hard work is the least we can do," Kruse said. "It is not every day you have family operations consistently producing for 100 years or more, and I am thankful to these farms in our community."
These farming families were among 73 recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
