STATEHOUSE (Aug. 14, 2025) – The Spillman Farm in Decatur County recently received Hoosier Homestead Centennial, Sesquicentennial and Bicentennial awards for being in operation since 1825, according to State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) and State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg).
"Hoosier Homestead awardees are a great example of the dedication it takes to keep a family farm going year after year," Patterson said. "This recognition is a tribute to our rural communities. I’m proud to see families in our district honored for their impact on Indiana agriculture."
Hoosier Homestead awards honor farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years with centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
"The Spillman family has been dedicated to passing on their agricultural legacy for generations," Leising said. "Farm families like the Spillmans are a large part of the reason why Indiana is one of the top agricultural producers in the country. They should be proud of this impressive accomplishment."
This farm family was among 95 awardees recently honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.
Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. Since establishing the program in 1976, Indiana has recognized more than 6,000 farms for their economic and cultural impact to the state.
