STATEHOUSE (March 12, 2021) – Two longstanding Harrison County farms were recently presented Hoosier Homestead Centennial Awards for being in operation for over 100 years, according to State Reps. Steve Davisson (R-Salem) and Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown).
Award recipients include the Billy J. Curts & Sharon Curts Martin Farm, located in Corydon and in operation since 1917, and the Fravel Farm located in Corydon and in operation since 1918.
“Farm families have always been and will continue to be a part of Indiana’s rich history,” Davisson said. “Recognizing the achievements of these families is important as they continue to play a vital role in our economy and contribute to Indiana’s standing as a national leader in agricultural production.”
The families were among 51 farms recognized at the Indiana State Museum for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"The Hoosiers honored with this award have dedicated so much to our community as well as the agriculture industry," Engleman said. "Our farmers deserve this recognition for their steadfast commitment to their career and Indiana's reputation as a top farming state. This is a great accomplishment, and I hope these family farms will be around for another 100-plus years."
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
