STATEHOUSE (Aug. 4, 2021) – State Reps. Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) and John Young (R-Franklin) invite constituents to weigh in on Indiana's redistricting process during upcoming public meetings in Columbus and Indianapolis.
"Hoosiers' input is a key part of the redistricting process," Davis said. "Legislators can consider this feedback to fulfill all of our statutory and constitutional obligations when we return to the Statehouse next month."
Indiana is required to redraw its districts for the U.S. House of Representatives, the Indiana House of Representatives and Indiana Senate following the nationwide census every 10 years. Before legislators are expected to return to the Statehouse in mid-to-late September to redraw the district boundaries, public meetings will be held in each of Indiana's nine congressional districts.
Young said Hoosiers can attend any of the nine public meetings in early August, including one from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6 at the Ivy Tech campus in Columbus, and another from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11 in the House Chamber at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.
"There are several ways to get involved," Young said. "Community members can attend and provide input at an upcoming meeting, watch a meeting online, and in late August, submit their own maps for consideration. There will also be opportunities to weigh in during the legislative process when members come back to session. No matter how you choose to get involved, your participation in the redistricting process is incredibly important."
Meetings will be livestreamed and archived at iga.in.gov. Visit iga.in.gov/redistricting to view the complete list of meeting dates and locations.
Census data is delayed due to the pandemic, but is expected to arrive on Aug. 16. Members of the public can also draw and submit their own maps for consideration by using an online portal with mapping software, which will be launched in late August.
