STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2022) – Longstanding Daviess County family farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years or more, according to State Rep. Shane Lindauer (R-Jasper) and State Sen. Eric Bassler (R-Washington).
The Arvin/Bradley Farm, in operation since 1906, and the Mathies Farm, in operation since 1919, each received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award.
"These longtime farm families contribute greatly to our area's economy and culture," Lindauer said. "Thriving for more than 100 years is no small feat and these Hoosiers deserve recognition."
These farm families were among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"It's important we don't take for granted the work our farmers, past and present, have put into Hoosier land," Bassler said. "I admire these families and their willingness to continue the tradition of those who came before them."
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
