Crouch Capitol Connection: Remembering those who protect our freedom (5/25/2012 - 5/26/2012)

Memorial Day, originally called Declaration Day, was created to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War. However, since America was created, our Founding Fathers created a revolutionary way of life and it is important that we remember those that have fought to protect our independence and freedoms and that we show our respect for their heroic efforts.

Memorial Day, which is often thought of as a kick off to the summer season with BBQs and the opening of pools, is really a day when we should also gather to honor all of the armed services personnel killed in defense of our country. It is almost impossible to thank them for that sacrifice, but it is important that we take time to remember them and show them how grateful we are.

Over the last 10 years many of us have been personally affected by the tragedies of war. Whether it is a daughter or son, a father or mother, an aunt or uncle, a niece or nephew or a friend, we have known someone who lost their life fighting for our great country and the American way of life. 

For more than two centuries America has been the land of the free, the home of brave and we must remember that the price of freedom is not free. It has taken the devotion of countless men and women to allow us to continue to live as we do today, and it is our responsibility to make sure that they are never forgotten.

While I hope that you take time to enjoy the warm weather and time with family and friends I also encourage you to pause for a moment to remember and honor the numerous brave soldiers that have fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for every one of us. Please also remember the families of current soldiers and the sacrifices they make every day so that we are protected.
