Criswell, Meltzer receive summer study committee assignments

STATEHOUSE (July 24, 2023) – Area legislators recently received interim study committee appointments and will take a deep dive into issues facing Hoosiers as they prepare for the next legislative session in January.

Lawmakers serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy topics, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.

State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) will serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Roads and Transportation.

"Indiana is already ahead of the curve when it comes to quality infrastructure," Criswell said. "This summer the roads committee will look into a number of issues like how we can reduce and prevent traffic fatalities, and how overweight loads impact our state's infrastructure."

Meltzer will serve as a member of the Probate Code Study Commission, and the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary. 

"During the interim months I'm focusing on a wide range of issues affecting our communities to help me prepare for the session in January," Meltzer said. said. "As an attorney, I look forward to serving on the probate commission, which will dive into the state's probate code, including looking at guardianships, trusts and the administration of a decedent's estate."

Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
