Agriculture is one of Indiana's top industries, contributing more than $35 billion to Indiana's economy and providing over 62,000 jobs. With five divisions within the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and various other programs and initiatives, finding correct information on reports, grants and regulations can be challenging and confusing.
As a farmer, I understand the need to be well informed on the latest updates in the agriculture community, which usually means spending hours researching and scouring the internet. We need to have one spot where farmers, businesses and others in the industry can learn more about policies affecting them as well as available grants.
That is why I authored House Bill 1149, through which the ISDA would create and maintain an online hub to help Hoosiers navigate federal and state agricultural regulations, funding sources and an updated inventory on lost farmland. The portal would also include a section for users to provide feedback to help ensure its effectiveness.
This legislation was passed by the Indiana House of Representatives on Feb. 3 and now moves to the Senate for further consideration. To follow House Bill 1149 through the legislative process, visit iga.in.gov.
I will continue to advocate for the needs of our communities in House District 16. Please reach out to my office with any questions at in.gov/h16 or by calling 317-232-9819.
