STATEHOUSE (Dec. 15, 2022) – State Reps. Alan Morrison (R-Brazil) and Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.

House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. Morrison will serve as chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee, and as a member of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee, and House Natural Resources Committee.

"As chair, I'm looking forward to diving into topics that impact our environment while also identifying responsible ways to cut burdensome red tape for Hoosiers," Morrison said. "I also look forward to supporting our state's important natural resources, which have a tremendous impact on our environment and economy, and helping our strong agricultural community."

Heaton will serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and as chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee. He will also serve on the House Financial Institutions Committee. Heaton was also reappointed as Majority Whip, a House Republican leadership position.

"Ensuring students who want to attend a college or university after high school have a viable path remains a priority," Heaton said. "I look forward to discussions on how we can help more Hoosiers achieve their dream of a post-secondary education."

House lawmakers are scheduled to convene for session at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 9. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
