STATEHOUSE (March 12, 2021) – Longstanding Clay County farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years or more, according to local lawmakers.

The Paul W. Reberger Farm has been in operation since 1864 and received a Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award. The William E. Reberger Farm has been in operation since 1864 and received Hoosier Homestead Centennial and Sesquicentennial awards. The Bucklin Farm has been in operation since 1917 and received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award.

"Farms like these are the backbone of Indiana's agricultural industry," said State Rep. Alan Morrison (R-Brazil). "To operate continuously for this long is a remarkable achievement and a milestone worth recognizing."

The families were among 51 farms recognized at the Indiana State Museum for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.

"Each year, Indiana's agriculture industry contributes $31.1 billion to Indiana's economy," State Sen. Jon Ford (R-Terre Haute) said. "This is due in large part to the perseverance of Hoosier farm families, like these three, who have spent generations improving agriculture in our state."

"Many farms across the state have been in the family for years," said State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle). "Recognizing their accomplishments is important for the crucial role they play in the success of our economy."

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.

Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
