STATEHOUSE (Aug. 18, 2022) – The Raymond and Viola Schafer Farm in Clark County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for being in operation since 1922, according to State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown) and State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown).
"This farm is a prime example of the Hoosier spirit and all it exemplifies," Payne said. "Their hard work and commitment to agriculture deserves recognition, and I wish them continued success for many more years to come."
The Raymond and Viola Schafer Farm was among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"This farm has sacrificed their blood, sweat and tears for a century and have given so much to our state and local communities as a result," Garten said. "For that, I offer my gratitude and well-deserved congratulations."
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
