STATEHOUSE (June 20, 2018) — State Reps. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne) and Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) were recently selected to chair the Interim Study Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance, and the Interim Study Committee on Commerce and Economic Development, respectively.
In the upcoming months, Morris will lead efforts in examining how best to utilize the city of Gary’s economic resources.
“Gary’s economic environment presents significant challenges that need to be thoroughly examined,” Morris said. “For over 50 years, a lack of investment combined with a rapid decline of industrialization and population has helped lead to the economic issues its residents now face.”
Morris will also serve on the Interim Study Committee on Employment and Labor and Environmental Adjudication Director Selection Panel.
Carbaugh will serve as a member on the Interim Study Committee on Pension Management and Oversight.
“We will examine all requested changes to the police and firefighter pension programs,” Carbaugh said. “Also, we’ll look into streamlining the pensioner disability benefit process and examine increasing the monthly benefit to surviving spouses of those members that did not die in the line of duty.”
Morris said interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are welcomed to attend and testify.
