State Reps. Randy Borror (R-Fort Wayne) and Matt Bell (R-Avilla) came together to honor two local high school girls' basketball teams from Fort Wayne who won state championships. Fort Wayne Canterbury High School Cavaliers Girls' basketball team brought home their third consecutive state basketball Class A title by defeating the Vincennes Rivet Patriots, 69-65, at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum. The Lady Cavaliers (25-2) became the fourth school in IHSAA history and second in Class A to win three consecutive championships. The matchup at the Memorial Coliseum between the Lady Cavaliers and Vincennes Rivet Patriots was a rematch of last year's state title game. The Concordia Lutheran High School Lady Cadets (24-3) won their first ever IHSAA Class 3A girls' basketball state championship by defeating No. 1 Rushville, 59-48, at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum. "These ladies accomplished a tremendous feat by winning a state basketball title," said Rep. Borror. "Both teams put a remarkable amount of effort, desire and hard work into a season they will be able to look back on for many years to come." "This is a tremendous achievement for both teams and we are fortunate to have two such deserving champions representing our area at the state basketball tournament," Rep. Bell said.
