STATEHOUSE (April 29, 2021) — Legislation co-authored by State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown) providing more opportunities for counties to expand early voting is now law.
"Early voting continues to be popular and this law provides a solid framework to expand it in our counties," Payne said. "In-person voting remains the most secure way to cast your ballot, and it's important Hoosiers have convenient options to make their voices heard."
Payne said under House Enrolled Act 1479, a county election board can authorize the circuit court clerk to establish a satellite office for in-person early voting for at least 4 hours the third Saturday before Election Day. Currently, absentee-in-person voting must be open for 7 hours on the two Saturdays ahead of Election Day.
