According to Beumer, his legislation would increase the penalty of selling and using synthetic urine during a drug test to a Class A misdemeanor, instead of a Class B misdemeanor.
“Fellow legislators and I are working to fight Indiana’s drug epidemic,” Beumer said. “This legislation takes the next step in solving drug-testing fraud issues. With its implementation, we can find those with a drug problem and get them the help they need.”
Beumer said synthetic urine products are marketed to help users pass drug tests. The directions instruct a customer to shake the fake specimen, microwave the liquid on high for 10 seconds, and then make sure the temperature is 94-100 degrees. The kit comes with a heating pack to keep the product warm and has a flip-cap to easily dispense.
House Enrolled Act 1104 now heads to the governor for his consideration as a new law.
