STATEHOUSE (April 7, 2017) — State Rep. Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) and State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle) today honored four family farms located in Jay County for being in operation for more than 100 years.

The Charles Muhlenkamp farm has been in operation since 1915, and the Journay Homestead, Wanda Lou and Merle Stewart farm has been in operation since 1887. Both received centennial awards. The Bricher farm has been in operation since 1863 and received centennial and sesquicentennial awards. The Young farm has been in operation since 1863 and received the sesquicentennial award.

The four farms were recognized during a Statehouse ceremony.

“These farm families contribute to the economy and heritage of our state,” Beumer said. “It is important we recognize the dedication these families have put forth and highlight their more than 100 years of ownership.”

“Since farming impacts our state’s economy, food supply and jobs, it’s important that we continue to support these families who have been in operation for multiple generations,” Holdman said. “I applaud these families for their devotion to the agriculture industry.”

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
