STATEHOUSE (June 23, 2016) — State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) will be serving as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Education.
In preparation for the 2017 legislative session, which begins in January, interim study committee members meet to examine assigned topics, gather testimonies and identify potential legislation.
“During session, we took steps to strengthen teacher background checks to include a search of the Child Protected Index, with the intent that we would come back this summer to find additional ways to keep our children safe,” Behning said. “The Interim Study Committee on Education will consider all options to improve the safety of Hoosier students.”
Behning said interim study committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas. Members of the public are also welcomed to attend.
Behning will also serve on the Panel to Study Alternatives to the ISTEP Program Tests and the Education Commission of the States.
