STATEHOUSE (Oct. 17, 2016) — State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) was recently selected to serve as co-chair of the Education Standing Committee for the National Conference of State Legislatures.
“This is a great honor and a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with fellow lawmakers from across the country on innovative ways to improve our respective education systems,” Behning said. “Many states, including Indiana, have made great progress in education; however, the country as a whole is still being surpassed by many of our international peers. It’s my hope that this committee will be able to look at successful programs and solutions from all over the world to continue moving our schools in the right direction.”
As co-chair, Behning will work with legislators and legislative staff from across the country to provide advice, direction and input on issues facing the education committee. Behning will serve in this position for two years, ending in August 2018.
Behning was a part of the NCSL International Education Study Group, which recently released a study that showed the United States is falling behind other top-performing countries in education.
