STATEHOUSE (June 25, 2025) – Local students preparing to become teachers are among this year's recipients of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, according to State Reps. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) and Julie McGuire (R-Indianapolis).
The scholarship program, established in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly and expanded in 2023 through legislation Behning authored, awards recipients a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 per year (up to $40,000 total) to high-achieving high school and college students who agree to teach in an eligible Indiana school for five years. A record-breaking 1,091 students applied for the 2025-2026 Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, with nearly 300 scholarships awarded.
"Teaching is such a rewarding career and this scholarship has helped so many achieve their goal of leading Hoosier classrooms," said Behning, chair of the House Education Committee. "It's great to see these local students earn this, and I look forward to them using their skills to educate the next generation."
This year, these local students were among the scholarship recipients:
McGuire said those qualifying for the scholarship must graduate in the top 20 percent of their high school class, earn a score in the 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT, or have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
"Educators leave an indelible mark on us as we grow and learn, so it's important to attract some of our best and brightest to this essential role," said McGuire, a member of the House Education Committee. "Congratulations to all of this year's scholarship recipients on this achievement."
