Bascom takes oath to serve as new state representative for House District 68

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 20, 2024) – Garrett Bascom of Lawrenceburg took the oath of office Tuesday to serve as state representative for House District 68, which includes all of Dearborn, Ohio and Switzerland counties, and a portion of Jefferson County.

Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush administered the oath to all House lawmakers during a swearing-in ceremony in the House Chamber at the Statehouse during Organization Day, which marked the formal start to the 2025 legislative session.

"It is a great honor to be the representative of House District 68, and I'm beyond excited to start this upcoming legislative session," Bascom said. "As a state legislator, I will advocate for greater access to mental health resources, ensure we maintain a strong and efficient justice system, and bring the voices of my constituents to the Statehouse."

A Dearborn County native, Bascom is an attorney with a local private practice. He previously served in the Indiana Attorney General's Office as assistant director of operations, special assistant to the attorney general and deputy attorney general.

Bascom earned his bachelor's degree in communication and new media studies from Mount St. Joseph University and his law degree from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
