Bartholomew County legislators provided the following statements today after Gov. Eric Holcomb announced his plan to call state lawmakers back to the Statehouse for a special session to provide inflation relief to Hoosier taxpayers:
STATEHOUSE (June 9, 2022) – "The governor is right in calling for a special session so that we can act on behalf of hardworking Hoosiers. In looking at Indiana's strong finances and considering the pain of inflation, we should take this opportunity to provide some direct relief to taxpayers," said State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus).
"Hoosiers are dealing with failed Democrat policies that are causing soaring inflation. Just this week we saw gas prices climb to new record highs. I'm in full support of the governor's call for a special session to get some money back into people's hands," said State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour).
"A special session will give lawmakers an opportunity to rightfully return even more money back to taxpayers. Already this year, we enacted the largest tax cut in state history and are returning $545 million in automatic taxpayer refunds. While the state's economy is strong, Hoosiers are feeling the pain of rising inflation, and now is the time to come together and provide some relief," said State Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville).
