STATEHOUSE (Aug. 13, 2021) – Whether studying economics, telecommunications or history, local college students and recent graduates can gain valuable hands-on work experience by interning with Indiana House Republicans at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, according to Bartholomew County lawmakers.
"The House Republican Internship Program sets young professionals up for success," said State Rep. Sean Eberhart (R-Shelbyville). "Interns getting ready to launch their careers can benefit from working with a team, honing their communications skills and networking with state leaders."
State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) said internship positions are open to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Students can apply for internships in a variety of departments related to their field of study, including legislative operations, communications and media relations, policy and fiscal policy.
"This internship program puts young Hoosiers in the middle of the action, working with legislators and staff on issues impacting Indiana," Lauer said. "This is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates to strengthen their resumes and gain critical skills that set them apart from other candidates in today's highly competitive job market."
Interns will work at the Statehouse in Indianapolis for the duration of the 2022 legislative session, which kicks off in January and concludes mid-March. The paid, spring-semester positions are full time, Monday through Friday. Interns receive biweekly compensation of $750, free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and can earn academic credit through their college or university. According to State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour), interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"Interns make lifelong connections and build on their classroom knowledge while working at the Statehouse," Lucas said. "This unique internship can help young adults stand out in a crowded applicant pool, all the while getting paid."
Lucas said to visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship for more information and to apply before the Oct. 31 deadline.
