Bartels statement on broadband expansion funding for Spencer, Perry counties

Note to the Press: Please include the following statement from State Rep. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) in your coverage of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s announcement of $22.1 million in funding for broadband expansion projects across the state. This funding will provide broadband infrastructure to more than 4,800 homes and commercial locations in 12 counties, including Spencer and Perry, as part of the initial round of the Next Level Broadband program. Bartels supported the state’s budget, which allows funds to be used for awarding broadband grants to rural areas:

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 8, 2019) – “Expanding broadband access and ensuring that all Hoosiers have quality internet will provide new opportunities and grow our communities. No matter where we live or work, internet has become a valuable tool to strengthen connectivity and open new doors. I am pleased to work with the Holcomb Administration to expand broadband access, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact on our area.”

Perry County
This project will serve approximately 357 unserved households and 39 unserved businesses in rural portions of southern Perry County. The requested grant amount is almost $1.5 million with a local match of more than $396,000, for a total project cost of almost $1.9 million.

Spencer County
This project will serve approximately 1,578 unserved households and 176 unserved businesses in primarily rural portions of Spencer County. The requested grant amount is $5 million with a local match of more than $6 million for a total project cost of more than $11 million.

Spencer County
This project will serve approximately 747 unserved households and 187 unserved businesses in Spencer County. The requested grant amount is nearly $5 million with a local match of more than $1.3 million, for a total project cost of more than $6.3 million.

Spencer County
This project will serve approximately 473 unserved households and 53 unserved businesses in Spencer County. The requested grant amount is nearly $3.5 million with a local match of nearly $919,000 for a total project cost of nearly $4.4 million.
