STATEHOUSE (Aug. 13, 2021) — State Reps. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) and Shane Lindauer (R-Jasper) announce the launching of an initiative designed to help attract, develop and connect Hoosier talent in southern Indiana.
According to Bartels, the Indiana Office of Career Connections and Talent recently selected Dubois, Orange, Crawford, Perry, Spencer and Pike counties as the state’s thirteenth 21st Century Talent Region. The designation is awarded to Hoosier communities focused on working collaboratively on economic development efforts. The Southern Indiana Gateway region and its 10-member committee, which includes economic development professionals and chamber of commerce leaders from involved counties, will meet monthly to discuss shared initiatives and goals, and track progress.
"Communities that work together are able to make transformational progress when it comes to growing the economy," Bartels said. "A rising tide raises all ships, and regional cooperation will help communities in southern Indiana attract new talent, bolster hiring pipelines and support business growth.
Lindauer said each 21st Century Talent Region has a core team working together to increase educational attainment, raise household income and grow the population.
The Southern Indiana Gateway committee aims to:
"It just makes sense for neighboring counties with shared interests to work together for everyone's betterment," Lindauer said. "This collaborative, data-driven strategy will use clear benchmarks and goals to promote job growth in southern Indiana."
