Baird honors Greencastle cross country state champion

STATEHOUSE (March 11, 2019) – State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) honored Greencastle High School Senior Emma Wilson for winning the 2018 Indiana High School Athletic Association individual girls cross country state championship.

“Emma represented our community well as she earned this state title,” Baird said. “She dominated the event and won her second-consecutive state title, becoming the first repeat state champion in girls cross country since 2007.”

In addition to her two cross country 5K state championships, Wilson won track state championships in the 3200 meter in 2017 and 2018, and in the 1600 meter in 2017. She was also named the 2018 IHSAA mental attitude award winner for girls cross country. In her four trips to the individual girls cross country state finals, she has never finished outside the top 10.

After graduation, Wilson plans to continue her running career at the University of Illinois.


State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) represents House District 44, which includes

all of Putnam County and portions of Clay, Morgan, Owen and Parke counties.
