STATEHOUSE (Aug. 16, 2018) — At its annual meeting at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) and fellow members of the Rural Caucus examined important issues related to the state’s agriculture industry.

Aylesworth said topics of discussion included virtual reality and its place in farm equipment safety training, rural mental health issues and the impact of the opioid crisis.

“A lack of mental health care and medical facilities in rural communities leaves these areas more susceptible to mental health issues and opioid abuse,” Aylesworth said. “Roundtable discussions on important issues such as these provide lawmakers with helpful insight on whether legislative solutions are needed.”

The Rural Caucus is a bipartisan group of state legislators that meets each year to discuss issues facing rural communities across the state. Through roundtable discussion and presentations from industry experts, the Rural Caucus identifies issues needing addressed at the state level.
